When you’re looking to compare golf insurance, it’s tempting to focus on price or freebies - but that’s exactly how some insurers may distract some golfers. The truth is, not all golf insurance policies are created equal, and the small print can make a huge difference when you actually need to make a claim.

Before you choose your next golf insurance policy, here are three key things every golfer should understand.

1. Why Reading the Policy Wording Matters

One of the biggest mistakes golfers make is assuming all golf insurance policies cover the same things. They don’t. Some insurers exclude cover during certain hours (for example, when your clubs are stored in your car overnight), while others limit where your equipment is protected -such as excluding thefts from clubhouses or hotel rooms.

Taking the time to read the policy wording carefully can save you a nasty surprise later. If your golf clubs, trolley, or rangefinder are stolen or damaged, you want to be absolutely sure your policy covers the situation in which the loss occurred.

When you compare golf insurance, don’t just compare the price - compare what’s actually covered.

Some golf insurance companies try to grab your attention with freebies like golf balls, rounds of golf or vouchers. While these might sound appealing, they can distract you from what really matters: the quality of the insurance cover itself.

A dozen golf balls won’t help you if your £1,000 driver is stolen and your insurer refuses to pay out due to an obscure clause in their policy. Remember, the value of an insurance policy isn’t in the extras - it’s in the reliability of your cover when something goes wrong.

Before you sign up for any policy, take a few minutes to look beyond the “free gifts” and compare golf insurance policies based on the strength of their protection and claims record.

3. Check Real Reviews — Especially About Claims

The real test of any golf insurance policy isn’t how cheap it is or what it gives you upfront — it’s how well it performs when you make a claim.

Reading genuine customer reviews, especially about the claims process, gives you valuable insight into how an insurer treats golfers when things go wrong. Are claims paid promptly and fairly? Or are there complaints about delays and rejections?

Insurance exists for one reason — to give you peace of mind that you’ll be looked after if you need to make a claim. Don’t settle for anything less.

Compare Golf Insurance: What Every Golfer Should Know Before They Buy

Running a golf club is about more than manicured fairways and smooth tee sheets - it’s about safeguarding your members, visitors, and reputation. One of the smartest ways to do this is by taking out golf club members and visitors insurance.

This specialist cover ensures that anyone playing on your course - whether a long-standing member or a first-time visitor - is protected if something goes wrong. For golf club managers, secretaries, or CRM managers, it’s a vital layer of protection that reduces risk and builds trust.

Why Golf Club Members and Visitors Insurance Matters

Golf is a sport enjoyed by millions, but like any physical activity, it carries risks. From slips and trips around the clubhouse to injuries on the course, accidents can happen at any time. Even property damage - such as a wayward golf ball hitting a car or nearby property - can lead to expensive claims.

Without the right cover in place, a single incident could cause financial strain for your club and damage your reputation. By insuring both golf club members and visitors, you ensure that:

Everyone who plays is protected - Whether it’s a regular member, a visiting society, or a casual green-fee player.

Peace of mind for managers - You can focus on running your club smoothly, knowing that unexpected incidents are covered.

Stronger reputation - Visitors will feel reassured knowing your club prioritises their safety.

Financial security - Avoid costly payouts or legal disputes by having the right insurance in place.

“Aren’t All Golf Clubs in England Already Covered?”

Since 1 July 2019, every member of an England Golf affiliated golf club has automatically received £10m public liability insurance as part of their affiliation. Working alongside Marsh Sport, England Golf provides members with cover if they are found negligent for causing injury to another person or damage to third-party property while playing or practising golf anywhere in the UK, Channel Islands, or Isle of Man.

There is no excess for personal injury claims.

There is a £500 excess for property damage claims.

This offers peace of mind for individual members - but it has limitations. Crucially, it does not cover visitors to your club, and it lacks many of the additional protections that make a real difference when incidents occur.

The Rise of Flexible Golf Memberships – and the Risk Gap for Clubs

Golf is changing. More and more players are choosing flexible membership schemes such as those offered by PlayMoreGolf or opting for pay-as-you-play green fees, rather than committing to a traditional annual membership.

While this shift makes the game more accessible, it also creates a serious insurance gap.

Because only fully affiliated members of England Golf clubs are automatically provided with £10m public liability cover, these new categories of players are not included under the national scheme. That means:

Flexible members may not be covered if they cause injury or damage.

Casual visitors and society golfers are entirely uninsured under England Golf’s protection.

Clubs could be left exposed to claims and legal costs if incidents occur involving non-affiliated golfers.

With visitor and flexible membership golf on the rise, it’s more important than ever that clubs take out specialist insurance to protect everyone who plays on their course. By doing so, you not only reduce risk but also show responsibility and professionalism to every guest who steps onto your fairways.

At Rubber Ring Insurance, we’ve designed a policy that goes above and beyond the England Golf scheme, giving golf clubs a simple way to protect everyone who plays - both members and visitors - under one competitive policy.

England Golf Scheme vs Rubber Ring Insurance

In short, while the England Golf scheme provides a solid foundation of liability insurance for members, Rubber Ring’s golf club members and visitors insurance delivers complete protection that meets the real-world needs of modern clubs.

Another key benefit of choosing a Rubber Ring Members & Visitors Policy is the potential to save money on your club’s overall insurance premiums. By separating out members and visitors cover from your main golf club buildings and contents policy, you avoid duplicating cover and may well reduce your total insurance spend. For many clubs, this approach works out cheaper overall while still providing superior protection for everyone who plays.

Offering golf club members and visitors insurance isn’t just about ticking a compliance box - it’s about safeguarding your club’s future, reputation, and community. In today’s world, members and visitors expect reassurance that their wellbeing is taken seriously.

With the right cover in place, your club can welcome players with confidence, knowing you’re protected against the unexpected.

Why Every Golf Club Needs Members and Visitors Insurance

If you’re an avid golfer, chances are you’ve invested in a set of clubs, a stylish bag, and maybe even a high-tech rangefinder. But have you thought about how you’d replace them if they were stolen, lost, or damaged? Many golfers assume their home insurance is enough—but that’s not always the case.

The Problem with Home Insurance for Golfers

While home insurance may offer some level of protection, it often comes with limitations that can leave you underinsured:

Limited Equipment Cover – Most home insurance policies only cover items inside your home. That means if your clubs are stolen from your car or locker, you may not be covered.

High Excess Fees – Many home insurance claims come with excess charges of £200+, making it expensive to replace lost or damaged clubs.

Single-Item Limits – Even if your clubs are covered, some policies have low single-item limits, meaning you may only be able to claim a fraction of their value.

No Personal Liability Cover – If you accidentally injure someone on the course or damage property, home insurance won’t cover you—leaving you exposed to costly legal claims.

Specialist Golf Insurance: Full Protection for Golfers

A dedicated golf insurance policy from Rubber Ring Golf Insurance provides comprehensive protection specifically designed for golfers. Here’s what makes it essential:

Full Equipment Cover (Up to £7,500) – Your clubs, bag, trolley, and accessories are covered at home, on the course, and in transit.

£5 Million Personal Liability – Protects you against legal costs if you accidentally injure someone or damage property.

Worldwide Cover – Play with confidence abroad, knowing your clubs and liability are covered for up to 120 days per year.

New-for-Old Replacement – We replace damaged or stolen clubs with brand-new ones, regardless of age.

Hole-in-One Cover – If you hit a hole-in-one, we’ll cover up to £200 of bar costs—so you can celebrate without the financial headache.

Home insurance may offer some protection, but it doesn’t provide the full coverage golfers need. For peace of mind, whether you're playing locally or abroad, Rubber Ring Golf Insurance ensures you and your gear are fully protected—on and off the course.

Worldwide Personal Liability – Up to £5 million in cover if you accidentally injure someone or damage property while playing abroad. Many golf clubs now require proof of liability insurance before you tee off—our policy ensures you're covered.

New-for-Old Equipment Replacement – If your clubs are stolen or beyond repair, we replace them with brand-new ones, no matter their age.

Hole-in-One Cover – If you hit a hole-in-one while playing abroad, we’ll cover up to £200 towards the traditional bar bill.
